About Ferrwood Music Camp
At Ferrwood we look at the WHOLE Person
Be prepared to grow personally, musically, mentally, spiritually, physically and nutritionally.
|Personally - The founder of our camp, Father Joseph Ferrara, passed away in December of 2004; however his vision of providing a quality music program lives on. For those of us lucky enough to have studied under this amazing individual can remember him saying, “If you become a great musician, that is a bonus, I’m here to make you a good person” Father knew that the serious study of music produces individuals who are focused, creative and have the ability to work collaboratively. This means treating others with respect and dignity. Cliques are non-existent and every student is encouraged to be themselves and respect the individuality of one and other.
Musically - We employ the finest instructors from all over the country. All instructors are degreed professionals; many of whom possess advanced music degrees. What makes us unique is the character and love of teaching of our instructors. Every instructor espouses the same philosophy of our camp's founder Father Joe.
Physically- We value physical education. We engage our students in yoga classes, dance classes, swimming, hiking, field games, slip and slide, Zumba classes. It's amazing to see our young musicians engaged the serious study of music and then stepping into a yoga and zumba class followed by an art lesson and ending with more music ! We are a well rounded facility !
Nutritionally - New this year will be the addition of plant-based nutrition classes. Students will learn the healing effects of fruits, fresh vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. Based on the work of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Michael Gregor, Dr. John Mc Dougall, Dr. Neil Barnhard and more, students will come to understand how food can heal the body. We will offer a salad bar at every meal, fresh fruits vegetables and a taste testing of plant-based meals.
At Ferrwood Music Camp we focus on the whole person and we create our programs to help young musicians realize their God-Given potential. We take great strides to provide an atmosphere that embodies respect, tolerance and cooperation. At Ferrwood we are a family who works together for the betterment of the individual child while emphasizing the importance of working in harmony with others.
Camp focuses on band instruments, chorus, and young beginners who have never played an instrument but would like to learn.

Ferrwood is Sponsored by The CAN DO Community Foundation
The CAN DO Community Foundation has created a unique model to carry out its mission of “Conservation, Preservation and Reclamation CPR – Breathing New life into the Community”. The foundation “adopts” a project. In the case of Ferrwood Music Camp, the foundation worked with many contributors in restoring the camp that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The camp is named for its founder, “Father Joe” Ferrara. Father Joe believed that while he may not turn every child into an accomplished musician, through music, he could nurture a better person for life. He would instill a set of values to his students that would last a lifetime. Today Ferrwood Music Camp continues and each summer it comes to life through the time and effort of many dedicated volunteers and accomplished instructors. Father Joe’s dream of building better individuals through music has inspired many, many people both as students and future instructors and volunteers. For nearly 50 seasons the camp continues to be a venue for kids to have fun and learn about music and life. The CAN DO Community Foundation is proud to play a vital role in the restoration and ongoing programming at Ferrwood Music Camp.
